Biography of the Incoming IDF Spokesperson, BG Effie (Efraim) Defrin
BG Effie Defrin was born in 1972 and enlisted in the Armored Corps in 1991.
2005-2007 – Served as the Commander of the 9th Battalion in the 401st Brigade in the Second Lebanon War, during which he was severely wounded.
2008-2010 – Served as the Commander of the 532nd Battalion in the 460th Brigade.
2010-2011 – Served as the Chief Operations Officer of the 162nd Division.
2011-2014 – Served as the Commander of the 27th Reserve Armored Brigade.
2014-2015 – Served as the Deputy Commander of the 36th Division.
2017-2019 – Served as the IDF Military Attaché to India.
2019-2024 – Served as the Head of the International Cooperation Unit.
BG Defrin holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and a master’s degree in security studies from the Hebrew University.
He is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies in the United Kingdom.
BG Defrin is married and a father of four.
