IDF Updates – August 18th

IDF: The Chief of the General Staff in the Gaza Strip: “Soon we will move on to the next phase of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots”, in which we will continue to enhance the strikes against Hamas in Gaza City until its decisive defeat. Operation “Gideon’s Chariots” has achieved its objectives, Hamas no longer possesses the same capabilities it had before the operation; we dealt a severe blow. The IDF bears the moral duty to bring the hostages home, both alive and fallen.”

The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, conducted a field tour today (Sunday) in the Gaza Strip with the Commander of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor, the Head of the Operations Directorate, MG Itzik Cohen, the Commander of the 36th Division, BG Moran Omer, brigade commanders, and additional commanders.

From the remarks of the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir: “Today we are approving the plan for the next phase of the war.
Just as in the recent operations in Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Judea and Samaria, and Gaza, we will continue to reshape the security reality.
We will maintain the momentum of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots” while focusing on Gaza City. We will continue to strike until the decisive defeat of Hamas, with the hostages always at the forefront of our minds.
We will act with a sophisticated, balanced, and responsible strategy. The IDF will deploy all its capabilities, on land, in the air, and at sea, in order to strike Hamas decisively.
Soon we will move on to the next phase of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots”, in which we will continue to enhance the strikes against Hamas in Gaza City until its decisive defeat. Operation “Gideon’s Chariots” has achieved its objectives, Hamas no longer possesses the same capabilities it had before the operation; we dealt a severe blow.
The current campaign is not a pinpoint one; it is just another layer in a long-term and planned strategy, with a multi-front vision to strike all components of the axis, and first and foremost Iran.
You have been fighting for nearly two consecutive years, achieving unprecedented accomplishments that bring security to the communities near the Gaza Strip and to all the civilians of Israel. I am proud of you.
The IDF bears the moral duty to bring the hostages home, both alive and fallen”.

IDF: Today (Sunday), in accordance with the directives from the political echelon, and as part of the cooperation between Israel, Jordan, the UAE, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Indonesia, the IDF, led by COGAT, is continuing the series of actions aimed at improving the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.

Over the past few hours, 161 aid packages containing food for the residents of the Gaza Strip were airdropped by nine different countries, including Denmark and Indonesia, which joined the airdrop operations.

The IDF will continue to work in order to improve the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip, along with the international community, while refuting the false claims of deliberate starvation in Gaza.

IDF: Overnight (Sunday), an IDF aircraft struck an armed Hamas terrorist cell that operated adjacent to, and outside of, the Al-Maamadani Hospital compound in the area of Zaytun in the central Gaza Strip.

The terrorists were identified storing weapons and equipping themselves with weapons at the hospital compound and using it as a place of shelter.

The Hamas terrorist organization continues to use hospitals in the Gaza Strip for terrorist purposes, cynically and brutally exploiting the civilian population in and around the hospital.

Prior to and during the strike, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munition, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.

The IDF will continue to operate against the Hamas terrorist organization and to remove any threat posed to Israeli civilians.
