Attached are the full remarks of the Chief of the General Staff: “Last night, after an operation over a few days, an intelligence operation and several operational activities—we brought back Oron Shaul, may his memory be a blessing, after a little more than ten years. He will soon be laid to rest in Israel. Last night, we brought him back to Israeli territory. After more than ten years, we still need to make every effort and explore every lead to bring back Hadar Goldin, and then, along with him, all the hostages and all the fallen, this is our mission. You need to know that your strong presence here enables the allocation of IDF resources, efforts, and troops to other arenas as well, and everywhere that things are happening. We were here six weeks ago, where most of the effort was concentrated, which has moved. You have carried out your missions with great success, and now we will move forward in other arenas.”

Joint IDF and ISA Announcement:
Footage From the Operation To Recover the Body of the Abducted Fallen Soldier, Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul
Yesterday (Sunday), it was cleared for publication that in a special, covert operation by the IDF and ISA, along with troops from Shayetet 13 and the 188th Brigade under the command of the 162nd Division, the body of the abducted fallen soldier, Staff Sergeant, Oron Shaul, was recovered. Oron Shaul fell in battle in Shejaiya on July 20th, 2014, during Operation “Protective Edge,” his body was thereafter abducted by the Hamas terrorist organization.
The recovery of Staff Sergeant, Oron Shaul’s body, was made possible due to a decade-long ongoing intelligence effort, which intensified during the war. This effort was led by the Hostage and Missing Persons Headquarters, the Special Operations Unit of the Intelligence Directorate, and the ISA. Over the years, intelligence gathering and the persistent actions of security forces led by the Southern Command enabled the operation to be successfully carried out.
Staff Sergeant, Oron Shaul has now been laid to rest in Israel, marking another significant step in the effort to bring the hostages and missing persons home.
The IDF and ISA extend their condolences to the family and will continue to support them.
The IDF and ISA will continue to work tirelessly to bring all the hostages back home.

Statement by the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi:
I informed the Minister of Defense today (Tuesday) that by virtue of my recognition of my responsibility for the IDF’s failure on October 7th, and at a time when the IDF has significant achievements and is in the process of implementing the agreement to release our hostages, I have requested to leave my role on March 6th, 2025. Until then, I will complete the IDF’s inquiries into the events of October 7th and strengthen the IDF’s readiness for security challenges. I will transfer command of the IDF in a high-quality and thorough manner to my successor. I have sent a letter to the Minister of Defense and the Prime Minister on the matter.
מכתב הרמטכ״לIDF: Statement by the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi: “It was both my duty and privilege, as the Commander of the Israel Defense Forces, to face the failure and turn it into a lever for progress, not a weight dragging us down – to lead the IDF and the citizens of Israel toward a new and safer reality for many years to come.”
