IDF: The IAF Has Completed an Airdrop Operation of Fire Suppressant Payloads as Part of the International Assistance Effort to Extinguish Wildfires in Cyprus
Yesterday (Thursday), the Israeli Air Force completed an airdrop operation of 32 fire suppressant payloads containing approximately 35 tons of fire-suppressant material, from two C-130J-30 Super Hercules aircraft of the 103rd “Elephants” Squadron.
The operation was conducted in cooperation with Israel’s Fire and Rescue Services, which provided the IAF with fire-suppressant materials and specialized airdrop containers for the aerial firefighting mission.
In addition, the IAF’s 757th Loading Unit, which specializes in preparing fire-suppressant payloads and adapting transport aircraft for such missions, also took part in the operation.
The C-130J-30 Super Hercules aircraft of the IAF are the only aircraft in the world with operational capability to carry out firefighting airdrops at night and in complex terrain.
