IDF Updates – May 21st

IDF: Last week (Saturday), the IDF struck and eliminated Moataz Deeb, the commander of Hamas’ missile and rocket array in the northern Gaza Strip. Moataz planned and directed terrorist attacks toward IDF aircraft and launched UAVs aimed at harming Israeli civilians.

IDF troops continue to operate, with the direction of IDF and ISA intelligence, against the terrorist organizations throughout the Gaza Strip, to dismantle terrorist infrastructure sites and eliminate terrorists.

Over the past day, the IAF struck over 100 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip. In northern Gaza, the targets struck included a weapons storage facility, terrorists, a military structure used by the Islamic Jihad in which weapons were stored, and underground infrastructure.
In the southern Gaza Strip, strikes targeted terrorists, military compounds, and observation compounds.

IDF: “I wish to address the residents of Gaza: We are not the ones who brought this destruction upon you. We are not the ones who started this war. We are not the ones who have deprived you of food, shelter, and money. We do not hide in hospitals or schools. We do not live in luxury hotels while you live in hardship. This is your leadership — the ones holding our hostages.
Hamas is responsible for starting the war. It is responsible for the difficult situation of the civilian population — it brought destruction, and it will not be the one to rebuild.”

“Hamas has one option — to release our hostages. If an agreement is reached, the IDF will know how to adjust its operations accordingly.”

“The IDF operates at all times in accordance with IDF values, Israeli law, and international law, while maintaining an uncompromising commitment to the security of the State of Israel and its civilians. Any statement that casts doubt on the integrity of our actions or the morality of our soldiers is baseless.”

Today (Tuesday), the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, conducted a situational assessment and field tour in the Gaza Strip together with the Commander of the Southern Command, the Commander of the 98th Division, and additional commanders.

IDF: The IDF and ISA are continuing to Eliminate Nukhba Terrorists Who Infiltrated Israel and Participated in the October 7th Massacre

IDF troops, based on IDF and ISA intelligence, are continuing operational activity against the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, dismantling terrorist infrastructure sites, and eliminating terrorists as part of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots”.

The IDF struck and eliminated the terrorist Mohammad Shahin, a Nukhba terrorist in Hamas’ East Jabaliya Battalion. The terrorist Shahin infiltrated into Israel and participated in the brutal October 7th massacre.

Over the past day, the IAF struck over 115 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip. The targets included launchers, military structures, tunnels, terrorist cells, and additional terrorist infrastructure sites.

Simultaneously, the Israeli Navy, in cooperation with ground troops, conducted strikes on terror targets in northern Gaza.

IDF: Earlier today (Wednesday), the IDF struck in the area of Tyre in southern Lebanon and eliminated the terrorist Hussein Nazih Barja, who was a significant source of knowledge in the field of weapons production in Lebanon, in the Research, Development and Production Directorate of the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

The Research, Development and Production Directorate of the Hezbollah terrorist organization is responsible for the production and maintenance of weapons and works to increase the organization’s ability to supply weapons. Since its establishment, it has managed many projects for the production of weapons in the area, including the production of precise missiles.

Hussein Nazih Barja is an engineer with extensive experience in the unit, responsible for establishing the necessary infrastructure for the production of precise surface-to-surface missiles in the area. His elimination was intended to damage Hezbollah’s re-establishment efforts after Operation “Northern Arrows”.

His actions constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF will continue to operate in order to remove any threat posed to the State of Israel.

IDF: Earlier today (Wednesday), a coordinated entry of a diplomatic delegation into Jenin took place. As part of the coordination, an approved route was provided to the delegation members, which they were instructed to follow due to the area being an active combat zone.

According to an initial inquiry, the delegation deviated from the approved route and entered an area where they were not authorized to be. IDF soldiers operating in the area fired warning shots to distance them away. No injuries or damages were reported.

At the end of the incident, once it was clarified that the individuals were part of a diplomatic delegation, the Commander of the Judea and Samaria Division, Brigadier General Yaki Dolf, immediately reviewed the incident. In addition, the Head of the Civil Administration, Brigadier General Hisham Ibrahim, instructed unit officers to immediately speak with representatives of the relevant countries, and he will soon hold personal conversations with the diplomats to update them on the findings of the initial inquiry.

The IDF regrets the inconvenience caused.
