IDF: Rockets fired from the Rafah area in the Gaza Strip toward Kerem Shalom and the Re’im area in southern Israel

Following the sirens that sounded earlier today (Tuesday) in the area of Kerem Shalom, six projectiles that were fired from the Rafah area in the southern Gaza Strip were identified.

The projectiles that were fired toward the area of the Kerem Shalom Crossing are preventing the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The IDF will continue to operate to enable the necessary security conditions to re-open the Kerem Shalom Crossing.

Furthermore, approximately 12 projectiles were also identified crossing from the area of Rafah in southern Gaza into the area of Re’im earlier today. The IDF Aerial Defense Array successfully intercepted five of the projectiles and the rest fell in an open area. No injuries were reported. Within less than an hour, IAF aircraft struck the launcher that fired toward Israel.

Joint IDF and COGAT announcement:

Today (Wednesday), the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. This follows its closure due to rocket fire by the Hamas terrorist organization toward the area of the crossing.

Trucks from Egypt carrying humanitarian aid, including food, water, shelter equipment, medicine, and medical equipment donated by the international community are already arriving at the crossing. After a thorough security inspection by the security personnel of the Ministry of Defense Crossing Authority, the equipment will be transferred to the Gazan side of the crossing.

In parallel to the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing, the Erez Crossing is continuing to operate to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip following security checks in Israel, as it did while the Kerem Shalom Crossing was closed due to attacks by the Hamas terrorist organization.

COGAT updated the U.S. government and international organizations regarding the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing.

IDF: Following the sirens that sounded in Kerem Shalom throughout the day, numerous launches were identified from the area of Rafah toward the Kerem Shalom Crossing. The launches did not cross into Israeli territory and fell in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, following the sirens that sounded earlier today in the area of Shlomit, eight launches were identified crossing from the area of Rafah into the area of Kerem Shalom. As a result of the launches, an IDF soldier was lightly injured. The soldier received initial medical treatment at the scene.

The Hamas terrorist organization continues to deliberately endanger Gazan civilians and carry out terror attacks from within civilian areas to attempt to attack Israeli civilians and IDF troops. Moreover, the terrorist organization continues to fire launches from populated zones in the area of Rafah toward the Kerem Shalom Crossing to attack IDF troops, as well as the functioning of the crossing.
