IDF Updates – October 18th

IDF: The IDF eliminated the Hezbollah commander of the Qana area

With the direction of the IDF Northern Command, the IAF struck and eliminated the terrorist Jalal Mustafa Hariri, who served as the Hezbollah Commander of the Qana area in southern Lebanon.

As part of his role, Hariri was responsible for the planning and execution of a large number of terror attacks against the State of Israel from the Qana area.

Along with Hariri, the Hezbollah terrorists responsible for artillery strikes and anti-tank missiles from the area were also eliminated.
Their elimination serves an additional blow to the Hezbollah terrorist organization. The IDF will continue to operate to thwart every threat against the State of Israel and its citizens.

IDF: Following the sirens that sounded in communities surrounding the Gaza Strip, the IAF intercepted two projectile launches that crossed from the northern Gaza Strip.

IDF: Following the sirens that sounded in the Arava area, one suspicious aerial target was identified crossing from the east into Israeli territory, the details are under examination.

IDF: A short while ago, the IAF successfully intercepted a UAV that approached Israel over the Red Sea. The UAV did not cross into Israeli territory.

Following the sirens that sounded between 0:55-1:13, in the area of the Aravah and the southern Negev, the incident has ended.

IDF: IDF operations against Hezbollah: A Hezbollah battalion commander in the Bint Jbeil area was eliminated, dozens more terrorists were eliminated, and 150 terror targets struck; In Gaza, IDF troops located large quantities of weapons during operations

The IAF, alongside IDF artillery, struck and eliminated the terrorist Hussein Muhammad Awada, a Hezbollah battalion commander in the area of Bint Jbeil. Awada was responsible for carrying out terror attacks against the State of Israel from a number of villages in the Bint Jbeil area in southern Lebanon.

Over the past day, IDF troops and the IAF eliminated more than 45 terrorists and dismantled more than 150 Hezbollah terror targets, including a weapons storage facility, launchers, and terror infrastructure sites. IDF soldiers conducting targeted, ground raids also located large quantities of weapons in southern Lebanon.

Over the past day in Gaza, IDF troops eliminated armed terrorists and destroyed terror infrastructure in the area of Rafah. During operational activity in northern Gaza, IDF troops eliminated a terrorist cell and located a large number of weapons, including hand-grenades, AK-47s, explosives and mortars.

IDF troops also continue operating to expose and dismantle terror infrastructure, as well as eliminate terrorists, in central Gaza. Over the past day, IDF troops began operational activity in the outksirts of Nuseirat and Al Bureij.

IDF: A short while ago, with the direction of IDF and ISA intelligence, the IAF conducted a precise strike on an operational meeting point for Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists. The terrorists were operating inside a command and control center embedded inside a compound that previously served as the ‘Abu Hassan’ School in northern Gaza.

At the time of the strike, dozens of terrorists from the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations were present in the compound, including:
* Hussam Muhammad Atiya Salah
* Ahmad Abd al-Naser Awad Hamdouna
* Akram Maher Namar Zaqoul
* Ahmad Abd al-Rahman Mahmoud Abu al-Jabeen
* Mustafa Ali Khalil Ouda
* Muhammad Abdullah Abd al-Rahman Tamraz
* Muhammad Muhammad Rafat Hussein Daher
* Mahmoud Musa Abd al-Wahab Atal
* Abd al-Karim Hassan Awad Hamdouna
* Youssef Hosni Ali Salem
* Muhammad Samih Atwa Sheir
* Abd al-Rahman Fawzi Kamel

These terrorists were involved in rocket attacks against Israeli territory, as well as in planning and committing terrorist attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel in recent days.

The command and control center where they were operating was used by the terrorists to plan and execute terrorist attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel.

Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.

This is a further example of the Hamas terrorist organization’s systematic abuse of civilian infrastructure in violation of international law. The IDF will continue to operate against Hamas in defense of the citizens of Israel.

IDF: For the past year, Sinwar tried to escape justice. He failed. We said we would find him and bring him to justice, and we did.

Attached is an English video announcement of the IDF Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari: https://bit.ly/3zZwSnJ

Attached is the full transcript:
Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization who was responsible for the October 7th Massacre is dead.

Sinwar was responsible for the most brutal attack against Israel in our history when terrorists from Gaza invaded Israel; massacred Israelis in their homes; raped our women; burned entire families alive and took over 250 men; women; children and babies hostage in Gaza.

101 hostages still remain in captivity. In brutal conditions.

For the past year, Sinwar tried to escape justice. He failed. We said we would find him and bring him to justice, and we did.

It was Yahya Sinwar who decided to wage war with Israel while hiding behind civilians in Gaza.

Since the beginning of this war that Sinwar started on October 7th we’ve said:
Our war is with Hamas, not the people of Gaza.

We mean it.

We are working to increase the amount of humanitarian aid including food, water and medicine that goes into Gaza. To the people of Gaza who are suffering because of Yahya Sinwar.

On this day, our thoughts are with the families of those murdered or kidnapped because of Sinwar.

We bow our heads and remember our brave soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend the people of Israel.

Our work is not done. We will not rest until we bring home all our hostages by any means and we will continue to operate until we complete all our missions in defense of the people of Israel.

IDF: Earlier today (Friday), IDF soldiers identified a number of suspects in the area of the border with Jordan, south of the Dead Sea, and forces were dispatched to the scene.

Two terrorists who crossed a few meters over the border into
Israel and opened fire toward the forces were eliminated by two IDF reservists in the Home Front Command, under the command of the Yoav Regional Brigade.

During exchanges of fire with the terrorists, an IDF soldier and an IDF reservist were lightly and moderately injured and were evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment. Their families have been notified.

Numerous IDF and Israeli Security forces are blocking routes and continuing to conduct scans in the area due to the suspicion of the presence of an additional terrorist in the area.

The public is requested to follow the instructions of Israeli security forces.

IDF: In accordance with the situational assessment, the IDF is calling up an additional reserve brigade for operational missions in the northern arena.

This will enable the continuation of combat efforts against the Hezbollah terrorist organization and the achievement of the goals of the war, including the safe return of the residents of northern Israel to their homes.

IDF: The 188th Brigade Destroyed Central Underground Command Center and Another Terror Tunnel Belonging to the Hezbollah Terrorist Organization

The 188th Brigade continues limited, localized, targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence in southern Lebanon under the command of the 36th Division. During activities in the area, the troops destroyed dozens of weapon storage facilities, several tunnel shafts, attack infrastructure and weapons.

In recent days, the brigade’s engineering troops located an underground tunnel route connecting two underground tunnel shafts in the combat area, which contained long-term hideout equipment, weapons, and documents used by Hezbollah terrorists. The troops, in coordination with the Northern Command’s engineering unit, sealed and decommissioned the tunnel shafts.

In an aerial strike, Hezbollah’s regional command center, which was used to launch numerous attacks on northern Israeli communities in recent months, was destroyed. Four terrorists present at the command center were eliminated.

IDF: Additional Footage From the Elimination of Yahya Sinwar

For the past several weeks, the Nahal Brigade and the 828th Brigade (Bislach) have been operating under the command of the Gaza Division along with the ISA in Rafah in southern Gaza. The troops are conducting intelligence-based targeted raids and operations, encountering terrorists and eliminating dozens of them in close-quarters combat and by directing IAF aircraft.

This week (Wednesday), troops from the 828th Brigade operating in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah identified several suspects in the area. The troops conducted scans, during which they encountered terrorists who fired at them and threw grenades. The soldiers returned fire, hitting the terrorists, who had begun attempts to flee and had split into two adjacent buildings in the area.

The troops continued their activity and scans in the area in order to target the terrorists, and fired at the buildings with tank fire, eliminating the terrorists.

During scans conducted by the troops the following morning, the body of Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, was identified.

This operation followed several months of operations in which the IDF in cooperation with the ISA and led by the 162nd Division, operated against Hamas’ Rafah Brigade and the Tel al-Sultan Battalion, eliminating hundreds of terrorists. These operations closed in on Sinwar, preventing his escape and preparing the ground for his elimination.
